Fixture Overview

The TP4R is a rigid, linear LED tube that delivers smooth illumination along its full length. It supports multiple color modes (CCT/HSI/RGB/GEL/FX) and professional control methods (DMX/RDM, CRMX, Bluetooth), which makes it viable on both small crews and console-driven sets.

It can function as:

  • a visible practical tube in frame
  • a hidden linear source for set lighting
  • a soft, close-range key/fill/edge light

Key Characteristics

Full-color tube with wide CCT range
IP65 weather resistance (tube category advantage)
CRMX + DMX/RDM for pro control workflows
Battery-powered operation for cable-free placement
Even, diffused linear output (good wrap, clean gradients)

The TP4R combines a 1.2m tube with 32 addressable pixels, built-in CRMX and an internal battery.

Light Quality and Output

The TP4R produces a soft, linear source that wraps nicely at close distances and creates flattering, controlled highlights. Tube lights excel at:

  • edge light that isn’t harsh
  • soft fill without big stands/frames
  • smooth background gradients on walls
  • practical-looking sources in frame

Because it’s a long source, it reads more “real” than a small panel in many set-design situations.

Color and Control

The TP4R supports five operating modes:
CCT mode
HSI mode
RGB mode
GEL mode
FX mode

It also includes 17 FX types for practical effects and cue-based looks.

Control methods supported:
DMX512 control
RDM control
CRMX control
Bluetooth app control
Light body control

This gives you both worlds: fast solo control via app, or proper integration into a board-op workflow.

Power and Battery Workflow

The TP4R supports multiple power options:
DC power supply
Internal lithium battery
V-mount battery power supply (sold separately)

Battery power removes the power cable from the shot, but the tube still needs approved support and secondary suspension appropriate to its orientation and load.

Typical Use Cases

Practical tubes visible on camera
Soft edge light and eyelight alternatives
Wall washes and background gradients
Set lighting built into architecture
Music videos and stylized commercial looks
Fast-moving location shoots (battery + app control)

Where It Fits in the Market

The Godox KNOWLED TP4R sits in the professional RGB tube category: more production-ready than consumer tubes, while still being more accessible than the most expensive rental-house tube ecosystems.

It’s a strong choice for:
Indie narrative productions
Commercial crews
Studios needing repeatable tube looks
Rental packages that need IP-rated tubes

The big selling points are simple: IP65 + CRMX/DMX + battery power in a usable tube length.

Pixels, Profiles and Measured Output

SpecificationManufacturer figure
Addressable pixels32
Illuminance at 1m, 5,600K, whole tube at full output765 lux
DMX precisionSelectable 8-bit and 16-bit modes
Native wireless DMXBuilt-in LumenRadio CRMX

Godox’s TP-series product documentation explains the 8-bit and 16-bit control modes; its fixture catalogue lists the model-specific pixel counts and 1m daylight output. The quoted lux figure is a complete-tube white-light measurement, not the output of one pixel or a saturated colour.

Select the console profile before patching the start address. Whole-fixture, pixel and 16-bit profiles consume different channel counts; 16-bit precision does not mean 16 physical pixels. Use the model-specific DMX chart to match mode, address and channel footprint.

The runtime in the specification table is the manufacturer’s approximate battery figure at 100% brightness. Battery age, temperature, colour and effect settings affect actual duration. The tube’s 20V DC connection needs its approved supply or battery adapter; a V-mount battery must not be connected directly just because its nominal voltage appears close.

Use the tube-specific clamps and mounting accessories without loading the diffuser or connectors. Keep power and data strain off the tube, and add an appropriate safety attachment for overhead use. The IP65 tube rating does not automatically extend to an external mains adapter or battery solution.
