Overview
The Fiilex Q8 COLOR-LR is a full-colour LED Fresnel with an eight-inch lens, a 12–62° focusing range and integrated LumenRadio CRMX. It is useful for controlled hard keys, studio or location accents, larger product lighting and colour effects that benefit from an optical spot/flood system.
This is the COLOR-LR version identified by Fiilex’s current technical sheet. The maximum consumption is 320 W on AC or 300 W DC. The quoted 7.7 kg fixture weight includes the yoke but excludes its separate 2.2 kg power adapter and the rest of the grip package.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- A focusable colour LED provides beam shaping and remote white matching.
- Electronic controls support repeatable settings.
Limitations
- Spot, flood and saturated settings have different exposure behaviour.
- Check generation, firmware and the installed wireless hardware.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Shaped key | Focus for the required area, then use doors or flags for spill. |
| Colour accent | Check the actual hue and level through the camera. |
Output and colour
The values below are Fiilex’s published centre illuminance in lux, transcribed from the model data-sheet diagrams. The diagrams also contain foot-candle values; those are a separate unit and are not substituted into this lux table. Spot and flood are identified independently at 3200 and 5600 K.
The large spot/flood difference reflects beam concentration rather than a comparable change in total generated light. Use the row for the focus position required to cover the subject. A diffuser, softbox, colour cue or intermediate focus requires its own assessment.
| CCT / focus | 1 m, lux | 3 m, lux | 5 m, lux |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3200 K, 12° spot | 80,701 | 8,553 | 3,078 |
| 3200 K, 62° flood | 7,479 | 861 | 331 |
| 5600 K, 12° spot | 84,341 | 8,939 | 3,217 |
| 5600 K, 62° flood | 7,816 | 900 | 346 |
The documented white range is 2000–10000 K with green/magenta adjustment. The manufacturer lists typical CRI 95 and TLCI 90; these are different metrics and should not be conflated into a single “95+” score. Evaluate the intended camera and subject when matching other sources.
Modes include CCT, HSI, RGBW, gel, CIE xy and combined control options. The parameter layout depends on the selected mode and firmware. Choose a matching console personality and record the actual mode, colour values, intensity and focus when a cue must be repeated.
The system offers 0–100% dimming with Smooth and Sharp response options. Smooth is intended for gradual fades, while Sharp suits faster changes. A flicker-free product claim does not remove the need to test a particular frame rate, shutter, low level and effect combination.
Power and batteries
The LR sheet specifies 48 V DC at the head’s 3-pin XLR input and 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz through the approved supply. Unlike the Q5’s listed 24–48 V range, the Q8 LR specification should not be treated as permission to connect an arbitrary 24 V battery. Use the designated PSU, battery solution and interconnect for this exact model.
The AC and DC maximum-power figures are separate manufacturer specifications. Include the actual PSU, cables, modifiers and stand/grid adapter in the package and load calculation. Route the power lead with strain relief so repositioning the Fresnel does not load the electrical connector.
The mount is described as a combination baby-stud female / junior-stud male arrangement. Use the correct orientation, engagement and rated support for the intended installation. Account for the moment of a front modifier and use proper secondary retention above people.
Control, cooling and camera operation
The LR data sheet lists integrated LumenRadio CRMX TimoTwo and Ethernet Art-Net/sACN. Confirm the LR model and installed firmware before transferring those capabilities to an older Q8 or another Fiilex head.
The head provides conventional wired DMX/RDM through five-pin XLR. Address the fixture, select the appropriate profile and terminate a final wired run. For an LR network installation, distinguish DMX cabling from Ethernet and set the intended universe and network settings before sending a cue.
USB-A is specified as a 5 V / 1 A power output, while USB-C is for firmware updating. Neither description establishes a generic charging or substitute mains-input function. Check firmware and every intended control path on a used fixture before relying on it in a mixed package.
The guide lists Off, Variable, Silent and Full Speed fan modes. Silent means reduced fan speed; it is not the same as Off. The guide also states that fan-off operation time is limited, without providing a universal duration that can be promised for every output and ambient temperature.
The checked current data sheet states IPX5 water resistance and a 0–40°C operating range. The linked operating guide also contains a restriction against installation in damp/wet locations. Match the exact hardware revision, supply and current instructions before a weather-exposed setup; the water-resistance line alone does not resolve those document differences.
Keep air paths open, let the fixture cool before handling the front assembly and inspect the lens, accessory latch, yoke, focus mechanism and connectors. Test white, tint and saturated colours, low fades, fan response and remote control. Damage to a Fresnel lens or an insecure accessory lock is a practical service issue, not merely a cosmetic defect.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
The larger Fresnel can place a concentrated hard direction while allowing the beam to be widened for coverage. It is useful for an edge, a harder portrait key, a controlled background area or a coloured accent from farther away than a small pocket fixture.
Focus and colour are separate creative decisions. Narrowing the beam raises centre illuminance but reduces the area covered. Barndoors shape spill without turning the Q8 into an ellipsoidal projector; use a suitable optical projection system if the image requires a defined gobo or sharply focused pattern.
Fiilex lists an eight-inch speed ring and OCTA4 softbox as compatible accessories. Those turn it into a larger apparent source with a different output and working depth. Support the added modifier and consider the complete nearly ten-kilogram head/PSU combination when planning stands, transport or overhead placement.
Alternatives and related fixtures
The Q5 COLOR is smaller and lighter, with a five-inch Fresnel and a lower electrical load. A soft panel offers a different source shape without the same focusing behaviour. The Q8 LR is useful when its eight-inch optical system, full colour and integrated radio/network package are all part of the requirement.
| Fixture | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| Fiilex Q5 COLOR | A smaller five-inch full-colour Fresnel. |
| Astera LeoFresnel | A battery-powered Fresnel with different engine, mass and power arrangements. |
