Overview

The Astera AX5 TriplePAR is a battery-powered RGBAW PAR with three LED emitters, a native 13° beam and a removable bracket. It can operate as a wireless uplight, a bracket-mounted PAR or a wired fixture using its power and DMX connections.

AX5 is an RGBAW fixture, not a Titan RGBMintAmber model. The later AX5-BTB revision adds Bluetooth Bridge while retaining the basic light engine. Its familiar housing and Astera controls make it common in event packages, but those similarities do not establish a colour match with AX9 or the QuikFamily.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- A removable bracket and rear kickstand support both floor uplighting and conventional mounting.
- TRUE1 power connections and 5-pin DMX allow long wired installations.
- Interchangeable flood and wallwash filters broaden the native beam for venue surfaces.
Limitations
- Its older RGBAW engine has a different spectral and white-light performance from Titan fixtures.
- Native optics are fixed; changing spread requires a filter rather than a zoom adjustment.
- Original AX5 units need an external bridge for app control; only AX5-BTB has it built in.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Venue uplight | Remove or position the bracket as intended and use the kickstand to aim. Compare the native, flood and wallwash patterns on the actual wall. |
| Wired stage PAR | Use appropriate power and DMX jumpers, secure the bracket and check the profile before creating cues. |
| Coloured background | Keep separate groups for any fixtures with noticeably different colour rendering. Match the chosen colour through the camera rather than copying raw RGB values between brands. |
Output and colour
Astera specifies three 15W RGBAW emitters, for a 45W total emitter rating. This is not a complete mains-consumption figure. The current table gives 1,080 lumens at 3,200K and 1,413 lumens at 5,500K.
Native beam and field angles are 13° and 26°. Published illuminance is 4,800 lux at 2m and 3,200K, or 5,151 lux at 2m and 5,500K. Filters change that distribution. The manufacturer’s table lists CRI/TLCI as no greater than 92 over 3,200–6,500K; it is not the Titan ≥96 claim.
| Manufacturer reference | Published output |
|---|---|
| 3,200K, native 13° beam, 2m | 4,800 lux |
| 5,500K, native 13° beam, 2m | 5,151 lux |
Power and batteries
AX5 uses an internal battery with managed runtime up to 20 hours and a nominal five-hour charge. Longer runtime settings reduce output. Check the actual event look and battery condition instead of treating the managed maximum as full-output endurance.
The listed AC input is 90–264V with TRUE1 input/output. Use the unit’s marked ratings and the charging system documentation to plan the circuit. A chain of fixtures remains limited by the cable, connectors and supply; the existence of an output connector does not determine a safe chain length.
Control and camera operation
Both versions receive CRMX, Astera UHF and infrared and accept wired DMX through 5-pin XLR. AX5-BTB has Bluetooth Bridge built in; original AX5 needs a supported external bridge for AsteraApp.
Prepare the same runtime and control profile across the package. Test a slow fade, power recovery and any signal-loss behaviour. For filming, check PWM and camera settings at the dim levels used in the cue.
Modifiers, mounting and the working package
The fixture weighs approximately 3.4kg with the published bracket arrangement. The removable bracket, kickstand, housing threads and safety eyelet require their matching hardware; include the actual clamp or pin in the order.
The 32° flood and wallwash filters have different patterns. Inspect their retention and the bracket locks. IP65 is a fixture rating for the prescribed arrangement; maintain seals and appropriate protection throughout the connected power and data system.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | When to compare it |
|---|---|
| Astera AX9 PowerPAR | A larger fixed-optics PAR with the Titan RGBMintAmber engine. |
| Astera QuikSpot | A zoomable spotlight for quicker changes of beam spread. |
| Astera PixelBrick PB15 | A smaller Titan-engine accent light when the full PAR package is unnecessary. |

Rental and used-fixture checks
Identify AX5 versus AX5-BTB and include the required app bridge. Count the filter set, bracket hardware, power leads and any charging-case components. Inspect the kickstand, yoke locks, XLR latches and seals.
Compare white and saturated colours across all three emitters and across the whole case. Run a battery cue long enough to assess used-unit capacity, then confirm wired DMX and power operation separately.
