Overview
The Dedolight Ledzilla 2, model DLOBML2, is a small 8W daylight focusing LED with integrated dimming. Its tungsten conversion filter and beam spreader support close detail lighting and on-camera use.

The conversion filter changes the daylight beam optically and reduces transmission. This differs from the DLOBML-BI, which tunes white light electronically. Specify the battery plate and supply separately.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Small fan-free source with manual control.
- Focus, conversion and spreader in a compact kit.
Limitations
- Fixed-daylight engine; filtering costs output.
- Limited power for distant or heavily diffused lighting.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Documentary fill | Use a broader beam close to the subject and check movement towards camera. |
| Tungsten interior | Engage the conversion filter and re-meter the filtered beam. |
| Background detail | Use focus or a dedicated Ledzilla imager to place a small highlight. |
Set the head position for the direction and shadow first, then choose focus and accessories for coverage. A sharp gobo or precisely shuttered image needs imaging optics; closing barn doors around a small spot does not create the same optical result.
Output and colour
The native focus and flip-up spreader change coverage in different ways. The daylight engine does not become continuously tunable white when the tungsten filter is engaged. Record filter position, focus and intensity for continuity, and re-meter after inserting the filter.
For a useful comparison, record colour setting or lamp, dimming level, optic, focus position, distance and illuminated area. Measure after diffusion or reflection when that is the working setup. Wattage, centre intensity and coverage describe different parts of the result.
Power and batteries
Ledzilla has integrated control electronics, but a suitable power source is still required. Specify a compatible battery plate, battery cable or DLPS-12 supply. The published input descriptions vary between sections of the distributor listing, so use the unit’s label and the approved adapter instructions for the exact voltage range.
A matching barrel-connector diameter alone does not establish correct polarity or voltage. Battery runtime depends on the pack and operating level; do not treat an old NP-F example as a guaranteed runtime for every modern pack.
Control, cooling and camera operation
| Control path | Operating notes |
|---|---|
| Onboard | Manual intensity and mechanical focusing; the DLOBML-BI also adjusts CCT electronically. |
| Colour conversion | The DLOBML2 uses an optical tungsten filter; it does not gain electronic bi-colour control. |
| Sound/camera | Passive cooling avoids a head fan. Test low dimming levels and any high-speed camera settings with the actual power source. |
Cooling reference for this head: Passive; no fan. Listen to the complete working package, including its controller or ballast, rather than checking only the head.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
| Item | Compatibility and working notes |
|---|---|
| Accessory family | Dedicated Ledzilla interface. |
| Projection | Compatible DLOBML-DP1/DLOBML-DP2 imager and correct projection lens. |
| Beam control | Model-specific barn doors, diffuser and optional DPBA-OB7 intensifier. |
| Mounting | Correct shoe/thread adapter or suitable small arm; secure the cable separately. |
Aspheric focusing optics are different from a conventional Fresnel. Check the actual accessory’s compatibility list, locking method and lens choice. A brand name or similar front diameter is not enough to establish fit.
Fit the intended front accessory before choosing the stand position. Check tilt clearance, balance, cable movement and independent support for any external electronics. Use the documented mounting hardware and appropriate secondary retention for the installation.

Rental and used-fixture checks
- Verify the exact Ledzilla model, battery plate and supply.
- Check the focus mechanism, small mounting arm and power socket.
- Inspect barn doors, diffuser/filter hinges and any dedicated projection attachment.
Confirm availability of service and replacement parts with the relevant supplier before buying older equipment. Check the actual kit contents against the shot: a missing controller, imager, lens or cable can matter more than a low head-only price.
