Overview

Godox KNOWLED F200SR flexible LED mat with controller, frame, softbox and carrying case

The Godox KNOWLED F200SR is a nominal 1 × 4 ft full-colour flexible LED mat with a separate controller. Its long, narrow face suits overhead strips, side keys and linear reflections where a square mat would occupy too much space. The manufacturer manual lists 250 W input, a 1.05 kg bare mat and a 2.8 kg controller. The support frame, diffusion, cabling and grip hardware add to that working package.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • A long, narrow colour source fits strip keys and linear highlights.
  • AC, battery and professional remote control support location work.

Limitations

  • The frame and softbox take assembly time and add to bare-mat weight.
  • A single 14.8 V battery limits the available dimmer endpoint.

Practical uses

SetupWorking approach
Overhead stripOrient the long axis across the required subject area; support the controller separately.
Product reflectionAdjust source distance and rotation while watching the highlight in the object.
Soft side keyBring the diffused face close enough for the intended wrap and add the grid or skirt for spill control.

Output and colour

The 1800–10000 K white range, tint adjustment and full-colour modes let the source move between white-light keys and colour interaction. CRI and TLCI describe specified white-light tests; they do not predict the brightness or rendering of every saturated setting.

Compare output with the diffusion and grid identified. The long mat can create a useful strip reflection or wrapping close key, but a centre lux value does not show the entire illuminated area. Meter at the subject after building the intended modifier and judge the result through the production camera.

Power and batteries

The controller accepts 100–240 V AC and has two V-mount battery positions. Only the left position supports single-battery operation. Godox specifies 14.8 V or 26 V packs; battery capability and the selected arrangement must meet the controller’s requirements.

With one 14.8 V battery, the manual limits the available dimmer endpoint according to curve: 70% in Linear, 58.8% in S-curve, 87.2% in Exponential and 39.2% in Logarithmic. These are curve-specific dimmer settings, not interchangeable percentages of measured illuminance. Test the actual battery and curve under the intended load.

Control, cooling and camera operation

The controller provides onboard operation, Bluetooth app control, wired DMX512 with RDM and integrated LumenRadio CRMX. Include the correct console personality and test a complete cue, including fade to black, rather than checking only static full output.

Four dimming curves change the relationship between control level and output. Record the curve with the lighting setup so a replacement unit behaves consistently. Test effects and low dimming at the actual shutter and frame rate; a successful test at one camera setting does not establish every high-speed combination.

Modifiers, rigging and the working package

The mat needs its support frame and mounting adapter to form the standard flat source. Build the softbox, diffusion and grid before final positioning. A long face has a different balance and wind area from a small rigid panel, even though the bare mat is light.

K1 and K2 packages differ: the manual describes a conventional softbox in K1 and an inflatable air-cushion softbox in K2. Check the exact kit contents when comparing rental or used packages. Optional skirts or tube-style diffusion change spill and source shape.

IP54 applies to the documented head/controller arrangement, with unused ports capped and suitable connections. It does not remove the need to protect open connectors or follow the manufacturer’s operating conditions. Fold the F200SR along its designated centre for storage; the manual prohibits rolling it for transport.

Gaffers Salon: a tube-shaped option for the 4 × 1 mat

Gaffers Salon’s AT200 demonstration shows an inflatable tube accessory intended to turn the F200SR into a four-foot source with a grid, skirt and handholds. It illustrates a different modifier configuration rather than the output or sound of the standard softbox kit.

Rental and used-fixture checks

Confirm the F200SR mat, correct controller, frame, locking cable, power lead and selected softbox kit. Inspect the emitting sections, centre fold, mounting points and hook-and-loop retention. Test both battery positions, the intended curve, low-level dimming and remote control. Inspect inflatable accessories for leaks and pack the mat along its designated fold.
