Overview

Nanlux Evoke 5000B LED spotlight with reflector and yoke

The Nanlux Evoke 5000B is a high-output bi-colour LED spotlight with a Nebula B4 white-light engine, green/magenta correction and an integrated power supply. It is a large production source for long throws, exterior pushes, substantial diffusion and large bounces.

Unlike the Evoke 2400B’s separate-supply arrangement, the 5000B concentrates the lamp, electronics and power supply into the fixture. That simplifies the head-to-supply layout, but it places a substantial complete load at the support. Electrical capacity and safe handling are central to choosing it.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • An integrated supply reduces separate head-to-ballast components.
  • Bi-colour, tint and professional network control suit large setups.

Limitations

  • The resulting head is a substantial load that needs suitable lifting and support.
  • Regional input configuration and reflector choice materially change the working plan.

Practical uses

The 5000B earns its place when the job needs a large amount of tunable white light at distance or through a substantial light-shaping system. Its direct AC architecture is different from a smaller light with an external controller, so handling and placement should be compared as carefully as photometrics.

The Evoke 1200B and smaller Evoke models cover different scales of production. A larger unit can create useful exposure headroom, but extra output is valuable only when the location, rigging and electrical package can support using it.

Output and colour

At 5,600K, Nanlux publishes the following readings. The distances are deliberately longer than a typical small-light 1m table, making the data more relevant to the scale of work this fixture is intended to do.

The four white-channel design provides CCT and green/magenta adjustment. It is a white-light-focused engine, rather than an eight-colour Nebula C8 fixture. That is an important distinction if a scene calls for saturated colour or electronic gel looks.

A colour-temperature cue can change both the look and available output. Confirm the required settings through the camera, including the tint adjustment and any output mode. Different brands’ G/M numbers are not interchangeable units of correction.

Power and batteries

The manufacturer lists different rated-power figures for its high-voltage and 100–125V regional configurations. Check the unit’s label, supplied cable and manual. A universal input-voltage line does not mean ordinary household distribution can deliver the required power.

Plan the electrical package around the actual continuous load and connection, with appropriate production distribution. The listed 52A maximum is particularly relevant to lower-voltage arrangements. Avoid comparing this light with another source by LED wattage alone; the electrical input and operating configuration determine what the location must provide.

Control, cooling and camera operation

The manufacturer manual limits Low Speed operation to 50% brightness and Off to 15%. Smart and Full Speed allow the documented full range. Sound requirements therefore change the light available, sometimes by several stops relative to the unrestricted setup.

Nanlux also documents a High Speed mode. Treat high-speed capability as a reason to test the exact camera frame rate, shutter and intensity, not a universal flicker guarantee. An ordinary-speed test does not establish behaviour at a very short exposure time.

Wired DMX/RDM, CRMX, NANLINK and Art-Net/sACN support use in different control systems. The supplied wired-controller arrangement can keep hands-on access practical when the fixture is high or difficult to reach. Match the console personality to the selected DMX mode and firmware.

IP66 protects the rated fixture arrangement from dust and strong water exposure under its specified conditions. It does not make the unit submersible or remove requirements for suitable electrical distribution, capped ports and safe support. Weather resistance and wind stability are separate questions.

Modifiers, rigging and the working package

The integrated supply removes a separate heavy ballast-style box and its head cable from the layout. It also means that the support carries the combined fixture. The source gives approximately 45kg assembled, while its component table adds to about 44kg; neither should be used as a precision rigging measurement.

Weigh the actual working configuration, including reflector, yoke, restraint and cable loading. Balance rails allow the head’s position in the yoke to be adjusted for accessories, but balance does not reduce the total load. Plan the lift, access and handling with sufficient crew and rated equipment.

The NL mount includes the PosiTight system to improve accessory security. Compatibility still has to be confirmed for the particular fixture and power level. An older NL modifier should not be assumed safe at full output simply because it locks into place.

For a distant hit, choose a reflector or supported Fresnel that provides the needed coverage and edge behaviour. For a large diffusion frame, a broader distribution may produce a more useful source than the highest central lux value. Include the accessory’s weight, heat limits and control requirements in the package.
