Overview
The Aputure LS 60x is a 60 W bi-colour LED spotlight with built-in aspherical focusing optics. Its adjustable 15–45° beam, compact head and barn doors make it useful for controlled accents, edges, small bounces and location work. Changing focus does not require swapping the spread lenses of a conventional PAR.
The “x” identifies the tunable-white model, with a 2700–6500 K range. The LS 60d is the separate daylight version. The front interface is Aputure’s LS 60 Mini Mount; Bowens soft-light accessories and the dedicated Spotlight Mini Zoom involve different adapters or optical arrangements.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Integral 15–45° focusing optics and supplied barn doors make small hard-light adjustments quick.
- 2700–6500 K tuning helps with warm interiors and daylight.
- AC, D-Tap and NP-F options suit a small location kit.
Limitations
- The barn doors do not produce the sharp shutter cuts of a projection attachment.
- The daylight LS 60d delivers more output at its fixed colour temperature.
- Battery current limits and the unprotected power accessories need attention.
Practical uses
The LS 60x fits jobs where a large COB and its modifiers would be awkward: a hair or shoulder edge, a background highlight, a small object or a controlled pool inside a practical location. Its focus mechanism gives quick coverage changes, while the barn doors help keep the light off unwanted areas.
Barn doors and a spotted beam are not the same as a sharp projected shutter cut. For a focused window pattern or gobo, use the compatible Spotlight Mini Zoom and identify that lens configuration in the lighting plan. Its output and field should not be represented by the bare-head photometric table.
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Hair or shoulder edge | Use the integral focus and barn doors to keep a small edge off the background and lens. |
| Background accent | Spot onto a detail or pool of light; widen the beam for a broader patch. |
| Small soft key | Use the dedicated softbox close to the subject, with the head set to flood. |
| Projected pattern | Use the compatible Spotlight Mini Zoom, with its own output and coverage checks. |
Output and colour
The original manufacturer manual provides these illuminance figures at 5600 K. They are settings of the head’s integral optics, not readings through a softbox or Spotlight Mini Zoom. Spot increases centre intensity by reducing the illuminated field.
| Distance | Flood | Spot |
|---|---|---|
| 1 m | 5,803 lux | 33,480 lux |
| 3 m | 703 lux | 4,241 lux |
| 5 m | 268 lux | 1,451 lux |
Tests and reviews
Erik Naso’s LS 60d/60x tests measured extended CRI of 95.51 at a 3200 K setting and 95.72 at 5500 K on the 60x. Measured CCT was 3101 K and 5390 K respectively. Those are review measurements at the stated settings; the manufacturer chart above is specified at 5600 K.
Power and batteries
The battery FAQ says a D-Tap source must support the fixture’s 90 W maximum draw. An NP-F battery’s shape or advertised capacity does not establish its discharge capability; some packs trigger protection because they cannot supply enough current. Use the correct plate, voltage range and approved cable.
The original manual lists at least 6.6 A continuous discharge for its NP-F arrangements and warns against batteries above its allowed voltage. Follow the actual unit’s instructions. Do not connect the 48 V output of Aputure’s two-bay power station to this low-voltage head; Aputure explicitly says that station is incompatible.
For planning, Aputure estimates roughly one hour from a healthy 98 Wh D-Tap pack at maximum draw, allowing for losses. Lower output can extend a run, but an ageing battery or a pack with a restricted D-Tap output may behave differently. Verify the complete setup before relying on it for an inaccessible placement.
Control, cooling and camera operation
The tunable-white engine makes matching warm interiors and daylight sources easier than adding gels to a fixed-colour head. It is not an RGB light: its colour-temperature range does not provide arbitrary saturated colours. Check skin tones and mixed-source matching through the camera rather than treating a high CRI figure as universal compatibility.
Sidus Link provides Bluetooth-mesh control. The listed original head does not have native console DMX/CRMX hardware. Fan settings, ambient heat and the actual camera position matter for sound work, and reducing fan noise can change the available operating performance. Test noise and exposure in the intended configuration.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
Aputure’s accessory guidance identifies the dedicated Mini Mount and designed optics. Use the appropriate LS 60 accessory or the approved Bowens adapter for supported modifiers. A matching bayonet name does not establish that every heavy softbox or optical attachment is mechanically and optically suitable.
With the dedicated LS 60 softbox, Aputure recommends setting the head to flood to reduce a concentrated hotspot because that softbox lacks an internal baffle. A large modifier can also place significant leverage on a small head. Support the actual arrangement properly and check the mount and yoke before moving it.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| Aputure LS 60d | More fixed-daylight output in the same focusing-light family. |
| Aputure STORM 80c | Full-colour control and CRMX in a compact head, using a different mount and modifier system. |
| amaran COB 60x S | A small bi-colour Bowens COB when integral focusing optics are unnecessary. |
What people are saying
Erik Naso: useful focusing optics, with output and handling trade-offs
In his Newsshooter review, Naso liked the construction, included barn doors and battery options, and favoured the 60x’s colour flexibility. He found the toothed yoke lock secure but less precise for small tilt changes, and the barn-door cuts less clean than a traditional tungsten Fresnel.
New Layer: check the fan near dialogue
New Layer’s comparison praises the build and accessory package but flags low-CCT colour quirks and fan noise that may be unsuitable for some shoots. Naso was less concerned about the fan in his test. Check the actual unit from the microphone position.

Rental and used-fixture checks
The head’s weather-resistant description does not extend to the complete power package. Aputure specifically identifies the adapter, NP-F plate and most D-Tap batteries as non-weatherproof. Protect those components and their connections separately; a weather-resistant connector does not seal everything attached to it.
Inspect the front optics, focus travel, barn-door retention, Mini Mount, yoke, stand receiver and locking DC cable. On a used kit, confirm that the AC adapter, intelligent NP-F plate, D-Tap cable and any Bowens adapter are present and correct. Missing power accessories can make an apparently cheap head much less convenient on location.
The 2020 manual lists 80 W and current guidance lists 90 W. Plan from the actual equipment labels and the current manufacturer guidance. The LS 60x is valuable when a compact focusing white-light head fits the shot; a larger COB offers a different output and modifier package.
