Overview

Aladdin BI FLEX M3 – fixture

The Aladdin BI-FLEX M3 is a 30 W bi-colour micro-LED mat with a narrow 300 × 125 mm face. It is designed for compact soft keys, hidden accents and lighting positions where even a one-foot-square mat is too large.

The M3 uses a separate dimmer and support system. Its shape and 30 W rating distinguish it from the square 70 W BI-FLEX M7; a shared controller family does not make the two heads interchangeable in size or output.

Earlier model. This entry documents an older Aladdin fixture. Check replacement parts, batteries and controller support before buying a used kit.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Fits narrow concealed positions
  • Lightweight separate head
  • Variable-white control

Limitations

  • Less emitting area than a one-foot-square key.
  • Controller, supply and holder remain separate pieces.
  • No saturated RGB colour mixing.

Practical uses

Vehicle or shelf accent. Fit the narrow head into the available space and run the cable to an accessible controller. Use the intended supports and keep the emitting face ventilated.

Close interview fill. Place it close to the subject with the matching diffuser. It works best as a small, nearby source rather than a broad distant key.

Product highlight. Use its narrow rectangular reflection in a small glossy object. Adjust the diffuser gap to blend visible LED points.

Output and colour

The 2022 catalogue lists a 2900–5600 K specification but labels its daylight photometric row at 6300 K. Treat the measured row as a separate published reference and identify the actual unit’s adjustment range.

Source shape is a major part of the M3’s usefulness. A larger mat provides a different reflection and wrap even if its dimmer can operate both heads.

Power and batteries

Use the M3’s matching controller and adapter or an approved battery arrangement. The original shared micro dimmer is described as suitable up to 70 W, but that is its controller rating, not the M3 head’s consumption.

The newer MM-DIM-LM manual lists BI-FLEX M3 compatibility alongside M7 and MOSAIC MINI. Confirm the approved cable and exact controller revision before treating a newer controller as a replacement.

Control, cooling and camera operation

The original control package provides local intensity and colour adjustment, with DMX through optional hardware. A newer compatible dimmer may add radio or app features; inspect the actual controller rather than assigning those to the original bare head.

Check low-end behaviour and camera flicker on the actual dimmer. Protect the LED face and short cable, leave airflow around the mat and avoid sharp folds across the circuit.

Using the newer MM-DIM-LM

The December 2024 MM-DIM-LM manual names both BI-FLEX M3 and M7 as compatible heads. Switch off before a panel change, use the approved model cable and check the detected sheet type after startup. Green/magenta and hue functions are for compatible RGBWW panels; connecting an M3 or M7 does not add a colour-mixing emitter.

Wired DMX uses MM-YDMX to the mini-jack socket. Select Wired or LumenRadio in the menu and allow the controller to reboot, then match the actual bi-colour profile. The Simple/Expert colour profiles published for MOSAIC MINI should not be assigned to a bi-colour head merely because the same dimmer can operate both.

Modifiers, rigging and the working package

The matching small X-Bend, diffuser and stand adapter make a usable key-light package. A one-foot-square holder is not a substitute for the narrow M3 support.

Use suitable grip hardware and secondary retention where required. The head cable should not be used as a handle or hanger.

Rental and used-fixture checks

Test the full warm and cool field and inspect the narrow mat for damaged tracks or creases. Check the short lead and locking connector.

Verify the dimmer model, adapter, extensions, holder and diffuser. Test any optional DMX or newer radio controller as part of the kit.
