Overview

Dedolight DLED3N-BI NEO fixture

The Dedolight DLED3N-BI is a compact 40W bi-colour NEO focusing LED using S-size optical accessories. It offers more output than the DLED2N-BI in a small head suited to travelling kits, product work and interview accents.

The NEO version changes the head connection and control system from the earlier DLED3-BI Turbo. Its DTneo/DTneo+ package provides wired DMX, with wireless reception on the plus controller. Similar model names do not make old and new electronics interchangeable.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • 40W class in the small S-size system.
  • NEO controls support repeatable dimming and cues.

Limitations

  • Active cooling needs a sound check.
  • Older DT3 components are a different power system.

Practical uses

SetupWorking approach
Travel interview kitUse a small softbox for a close key and another focused head for the background.
Reflected lightFeed a small reflector through the correct S-size beam intensifier.
Product patternSpecify the S-size projector, lens and pattern holder together.

Set the head position for the direction and shadow first, then choose focus and accessories for coverage. A sharp gobo or precisely shuttered image needs imaging optics; closing barn doors around a small spot does not create the same optical result.

Output and colour

The distributor’s NEO narrative and DLED2/3 comparison identify active cooling, while a repeated feature row says passive. Treat the 40W DLED3N as fan-cooled when planning sound. Conflicting weight conversions are omitted here. The original Turbo’s published angles should not be copied into this NEO entry.

For a useful comparison, record colour setting or lamp, dimming level, optic, focus position, distance and illuminated area. Measure after diffusion or reflection when that is the working setup. Wattage, centre intensity and coverage describe different parts of the result.

Power and batteries

Use the correct DTneo or DTneo+ controller with a DPOWN-series head cable. The controller accepts the documented 12–18V DC range through the specified battery or supply arrangement. The optional DLPS15-100 AC adapter attaches through the V-mount interface; a head-only purchase is not a mains-powered kit.

The head wattage and the controller’s maximum rating answer different questions. Size a battery by both usable watt-hours and continuous discharge capability, then allow for controller losses and reserve capacity. Do not assume every V-mount pack is suitable solely because the mount fits.

Control, cooling and camera operation

Control pathOperating notes
DTneoOLED/local control and wired 5-pin DMX; documented 8/16-bit options and dimming curves.
DTneo+Adds CRMX and Bluetooth to the supported NEO control package; check the exact controller supplied.
Camera operationTest the intended dimming level, frame rate and shutter with the selected high-speed mode. A headline maximum frame rate is not a result for every camera setting.

Cooling reference for this head: Active cooling. Listen to the complete working package, including its controller or ballast, rather than checking only the head.

Modifiers, rigging and the working package

ItemCompatibility and working notes
Accessory familyS-size; confirm the exact head/attachment pairing.
ProjectionCompatible S-size imager, lens and shutter/gobo/iris module.
Beam intensifierUse a model-approved S-size parallel-beam attachment; not a general-purpose Bowens optic.
Soft lightCorrect speedring/softbox or a separate diffusion/bounce surface.

Aspheric focusing optics are different from a conventional Fresnel. Check the actual accessory’s compatibility list, locking method and lens choice. A brand name or similar front diameter is not enough to establish fit.

Fit the intended front accessory before choosing the stand position. Check tilt clearance, balance, cable movement and independent support for any external electronics. Use the documented mounting hardware and appropriate secondary retention for the installation.

Rental and used-fixture checks

  • Read both head and controller model labels; original DLED electronics are not interchangeable by appearance.
  • Test the full fade, warm/cool adjustment and any CRMX link actually needed.
  • Inspect the focus travel, front optics, pigtail connector and cable strain relief.

Confirm availability of service and replacement parts with the relevant supplier before buying older equipment. Check the actual kit contents against the shot: a missing controller, imager, lens or cable can matter more than a low head-only price.
