Overview

Dedolight DLED7N-BI NEO fixture

The Dedolight DLED7N-BI is an 80W-class bi-colour NEO spotlight using M-size accessories. It combines a compact head with stronger output than the DLED4N for interview keys, edges, product lighting and reflected-light setups.

This is the bi-colour NEO model with DTneo/DTneo+ electronics, separate from the earlier 90W-labelled DLED7-BI Turbo. It also differs from RGBACL NEO Color: those heads have different output, focusing and shadow characteristics.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Useful output in a compact M-size package.
  • Wider native focusing range than NEO Color.

Limitations

  • Fan cooling needs checking near dialogue.
  • Bi-colour output does not provide saturated RGBACL colours.

Practical uses

SetupWorking approach
Interview keyFit a compatible small softbox or use bounce; reserve bare focus for accents.
Lightstream sourceAlign the M-size parallel-beam attachment and reflector at the final subject position.
Practical motivationFocus a warm pool onto the action while keeping the head out of frame.

Set the head position for the direction and shadow first, then choose focus and accessories for coverage. A sharp gobo or precisely shuttered image needs imaging optics; closing barn doors around a small spot does not create the same optical result.

Output and colour

This entry follows the current California package’s 80W head reference and 6–60° beam. Older NEO literature sometimes uses a 90W class designation. Use the actual head/controller labels for electrical planning. Dedolight’s bi-colour versus multicolour demonstration explains why the colour head is not an identical beam with extra colour modes.

For a useful comparison, record colour setting or lamp, dimming level, optic, focus position, distance and illuminated area. Measure after diffusion or reflection when that is the working setup. Wattage, centre intensity and coverage describe different parts of the result.

Power and batteries

Use the correct DTneo or DTneo+ controller with a DPOWN-series head cable. The controller accepts the documented 12–18V DC range through the specified battery or supply arrangement. The optional DLPS15-100 AC adapter attaches through the V-mount interface; a head-only purchase is not a mains-powered kit.

The head wattage and the controller’s maximum rating answer different questions. Size a battery by both usable watt-hours and continuous discharge capability, then allow for controller losses and reserve capacity. Do not assume every V-mount pack is suitable solely because the mount fits.

Control, cooling and camera operation

Control pathOperating notes
DTneoOLED/local control and wired 5-pin DMX; documented 8/16-bit options and dimming curves.
DTneo+Adds CRMX and Bluetooth to the supported NEO control package; check the exact controller supplied.
Camera operationTest the intended dimming level, frame rate and shutter with the selected high-speed mode. A headline maximum frame rate is not a result for every camera setting.

Cooling reference for this head: Active cooling. Listen to the complete working package, including its controller or ballast, rather than checking only the head.

Modifiers, rigging and the working package

ItemCompatibility and working notes
Accessory familyM-size; check the compatibility list for the actual head and generation.
ProjectionCompatible DP1/DP2-family M-size imager, projection lens and desired shutter/gobo/iris assembly.
Beam controlModel-approved barn doors, light shield ring and wide-angle/parallel-beam attachments.
Soft lightCompatible speedring/softbox or a properly supported diffusion/bounce surface.

Aspheric focusing optics are different from a conventional Fresnel. Check the actual accessory’s compatibility list, locking method and lens choice. A brand name or similar front diameter is not enough to establish fit.

Fit the intended front accessory before choosing the stand position. Check tilt clearance, balance, cable movement and independent support for any external electronics. Use the documented mounting hardware and appropriate secondary retention for the installation.

Rental and used-fixture checks

  • Read both head and controller model labels; original DLED electronics are not interchangeable by appearance.
  • Test the full fade, warm/cool adjustment and any CRMX link actually needed.
  • Inspect the focus travel, front optics, pigtail connector and cable strain relief.

Confirm availability of service and replacement parts with the relevant supplier before buying older equipment. Check the actual kit contents against the shot: a missing controller, imager, lens or cable can matter more than a low head-only price.
