Overview
The Dedolight Ledzilla Bi-Color, model DLOBML-BI, is an 8W focusing LED with integrated dimming and colour controls. Its small body suits close accents, product details and on-camera use.

This is the electronically adjustable bi-colour model, rather than the fixed-daylight DLOBML2 with its conversion filter. Power plates, batteries and an AC supply are separate package choices.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Tiny fan-free head with integrated controls.
- Electronic CCT adjustment without a conversion filter.
Limitations
- Limited throw and diffusion headroom.
- Hard light until the apparent source size is enlarged.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Product detail | Pick out a small feature without filling the whole set. |
| On-camera fill | Start in flood and check the subject’s closest position. |
| Hidden practical | Secure the head on a suitable arm and strain-relieve the power cable. |
Set the head position for the direction and shadow first, then choose focus and accessories for coverage. A sharp gobo or precisely shuttered image needs imaging optics; closing barn doors around a small spot does not create the same optical result.
Output and colour
Use the focused beam for details and the appropriate diffuser for broader coverage. Eight watts does not make a soft key by itself: the source must become physically larger through diffusion or bounce. Place it close enough to retain useful exposure after modification.
For a useful comparison, record colour setting or lamp, dimming level, optic, focus position, distance and illuminated area. Measure after diffusion or reflection when that is the working setup. Wattage, centre intensity and coverage describe different parts of the result.
Power and batteries
Ledzilla has integrated control electronics, but a suitable power source is still required. Specify a compatible battery plate, battery cable or DLPS-12 supply. The published input descriptions vary between sections of the distributor listing, so use the unit’s label and the approved adapter instructions for the exact voltage range.
A matching barrel-connector diameter alone does not establish correct polarity or voltage. Battery runtime depends on the pack and operating level; do not treat an old NP-F example as a guaranteed runtime for every modern pack.
Control, cooling and camera operation
| Control path | Operating notes |
|---|---|
| Onboard | Manual intensity and mechanical focusing; the DLOBML-BI also adjusts CCT electronically. |
| Colour conversion | The DLOBML2 uses an optical tungsten filter; it does not gain electronic bi-colour control. |
| Sound/camera | Passive cooling avoids a head fan. Test low dimming levels and any high-speed camera settings with the actual power source. |
Cooling reference for this head: Passive; no fan. Listen to the complete working package, including its controller or ballast, rather than checking only the head.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
| Item | Compatibility and working notes |
|---|---|
| Accessory family | Dedicated Ledzilla interface. |
| Projection | Compatible DLOBML-DP1/DLOBML-DP2 imager and correct projection lens. |
| Beam control | Model-specific barn doors, diffuser and optional DPBA-OB7 intensifier. |
| Mounting | Correct shoe/thread adapter or suitable small arm; secure the cable separately. |
Aspheric focusing optics are different from a conventional Fresnel. Check the actual accessory’s compatibility list, locking method and lens choice. A brand name or similar front diameter is not enough to establish fit.
Fit the intended front accessory before choosing the stand position. Check tilt clearance, balance, cable movement and independent support for any external electronics. Use the documented mounting hardware and appropriate secondary retention for the installation.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | Reason to compare |
|---|---|
| Dedolight Ledzilla 2 Daylight (DLOBML2) | Small fan-free source with manual control. 8W; Ledzilla-size optical system. |
| Dedolight DLED2N-BI NEO | Fan-free head suits quiet interiors. 20W head; S-size optical system. |
| Dedolight DLED3N-BI NEO | 40W class in the small S-size system. 40W head; S-size optical system. |
Classic Dedolight DLH4: the original low-voltage tungsten alternative with a separate supply. Compare the full power and accessory package, rather than the bare-head price.

Rental and used-fixture checks
- Verify the exact Ledzilla model, battery plate and supply.
- Check the focus mechanism, small mounting arm and power socket.
- Inspect barn doors, diffuser/filter hinges and any dedicated projection attachment.
Confirm availability of service and replacement parts with the relevant supplier before buying older equipment. Check the actual kit contents against the shot: a missing controller, imager, lens or cable can matter more than a low head-only price.
