Overview
The Aladdin BASE-LITE 200 is a rigid 200 W bi-colour LED panel with a removable diffuser and built-in DMX. It puts Aladdin’s broad soft-light approach into a metal housing for portable and studio use.

Unlike a flexible mat, the BASE-LITE carries its structure at the lighting position. That makes a fast stand-mounted setup straightforward, but head mass and yoke condition matter when assessing a used package.
Earlier model. This entry documents an older Aladdin fixture. Check replacement parts, batteries and controller support before buying a used kit.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Rigid ready-to-mount body
- Removable diffuser
- Built-in DMX
Limitations
- More weight at the stand than a bare fabric head.
- Modifier changes affect output and reflected LED visibility.
- No native Bluetooth or radio capability is established by the specification sheet.
Practical uses
Interview key. Fit the diffuser, place the panel near the subject and control spill with the correct grid or flags. Match the practical light direction before setting exposure.
Studio fill. Use local controls for a standalone setup or patch DMX for repeatable cues. Check the low end and the response of the actual unit.
Product lighting. Use the diffused face for a clean rectangular reflection. Removing diffusion can increase level while making individual emitters more visible in glossy surfaces.
Output and colour
The following manufacturer figures come from the BASE-LITE specification sheet. The sheet does not identify a diffuser configuration beside the table, so do not assign those readings to an unspecified bare or diffused setup.
The beam-angle figure describes broad output. Barn doors and a honeycomb help limit spill, but they do not create the focused edge and throw of a profile or Fresnel.
| Setting | 0.6 m | 1 m | 2 m | 3 m |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6000 K | 14000 | 5500 | 1700 | 840 |
| 4200 K | 14000 | 4500 | 1600 | 800 |
| 3000 K | 11000 | 5500 | 1300 | 700 |
Power and batteries
The specification sheet lists 12–30 V at the dimmer and a 90–260 V AC power-unit range. Match the actual fixture, battery plate and adapter labels before connecting power.
At this 200 W rating, battery discharge capability matters alongside Wh capacity. A battery with the correct mount may still be unsuitable for the load. Inspect the plate and contacts for secure fit and signs of heating.
Control, cooling and camera operation
Built-in DMX is documented, along with local dimming and colour adjustment. Check the address, control mode and signal-loss behaviour on the unit; use the correct manual for the controller revision.
The passive body needs clear airflow. Do not assume rain protection from the metal shell, and test the intended frame rate, shutter and dimming level before a critical shot.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
The manufacturer lists a removable diffuser, barn doors and honeycomb grids. Check the correct size and fastening method for the 100 W or 200 W housing.
Inspect the yoke, tilt locks and stand interface before loading the fixture. Secure accessories and dress the power and DMX cables so they do not pull the tilt position or stand.
Rigid panel versus a fabric-head package
The housing, yoke and removable diffusion form a self-contained rigid source. Compare the actual stand load and transport size with a flexible mat plus its separate support, dimmer and supply. A rectangular fabric head can create a similar reflection, but its controller mounting and handling requirements are different. Check yoke locks, diffuser retention and the battery-mount version on an older BASE-LITE kit.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| Nanlite PavoSlim 120C | A thin colour panel with a separate controller. |
| Kino Flo FreeStyle 21 | Another broad soft-source system. |
| BASE-LITE 100 | Earlier 100 W rigid bi-colour panel, about 2.3 kg. Choose its integrated housing and removable diffusion instead of a separate fabric-head support system. |
| BI-FABRIC 4 | 200 W bi-colour BI-FABRIC 4. The current page lists a 300 × 1200 mm head; check the documented older dimensions and matching dimmer when buying used. |
| FABRIC-LITE 200 | 900 × 900 mm, 200 W bi-colour fabric panel using the matching 200 W controller family. Lower rated head power than FABRIC-LITE 350; it is an earlier range entry. |
Rental and used-fixture checks
Inspect the housing, yoke, tilt locks, diffuser tracks, accessory fasteners and battery plate. Run both white channels and look for dark or mismatched LED regions.
Test local controls, wired DMX, AC power and the intended battery. Confirm that the adapter, diffuser, grid and barn doors belong to the correct body size.
