Overview
The Dedolight DLH200DT is a compact discharge-lamp spotlight using M-size optics and a separate DEB200DT ballast. It provides a small focusing source for daylight accents, interviews, products and projection.

The DT designation covers approved daylight and tungsten-colour discharge lamp options. It does not mean electronic bi-colour adjustment. The working package needs the correct lamp, ballast and DPOW200DT cable.
Key specifications
| Specification | Details |

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Compact discharge source with M-size accessories.
- Tight focus and optional imaging optics.
Limitations
- Older lamp, ballast and cable condition matter.
- Restricted dimming and discharge-lamp operating routine.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Daylight accent | Focus onto the required detail instead of washing the room. |
| Window pattern | Use the M-size imager with the correct lens and shutters/gobo. |
| Interview backlight | Check lamp, ballast, camera settings and sound before the take. |
Set the head position for the direction and shadow first, then choose focus and accessories for coverage. A sharp gobo or precisely shuttered image needs imaging optics; closing barn doors around a small spot does not create the same optical result.
Output and colour
The distributor lists daylight operation from 200W towards 100W, with a different lower limit for its tungsten-colour lamp. Follow the exact lamp/ballast documentation. This restricted dimming range does not behave like an LED fade to zero; allow for strike and warm-up.
For a useful comparison, record colour setting or lamp, dimming level, optic, focus position, distance and illuminated area. Measure after diffusion or reflection when that is the working setup. Wattage, centre intensity and coverage describe different parts of the result.
Power and batteries
Use the approved discharge lamp, matching DEB ballast and correct head cable. The DLH200DT, DLH400DT and DLH1200D use different power packages. Head wattage is lamp power, not a complete specification of AC input, power factor or inrush.
Follow the documented connection, strike, cooling and relamping procedure. Keep protective optics and interlocks in service, and do not operate a discharge lamp with damaged protection. Support the ballast and cable independently of the head’s tilt mechanism.
Control, cooling and camera operation
| Control path | Operating notes |
|---|---|
| Focus | Mechanical beam adjustment at the lamphead. |
| Dimming/DMX | Provided through the documented ballast options and within the approved lamp-power range. |
| High-speed | Frequency selection and lamp condition affect camera results. Test the actual ballast, lamp, frame rate and shutter rather than relying on a general flicker-free claim. |
Cooling reference for this head: Check head and ballast noise on the actual package. Listen to the complete working package, including its controller or ballast, rather than checking only the head.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
| Item | Compatibility and working notes |
|---|---|
| Accessory family | M-size; check the compatibility list for the actual head and generation. |
| Projection | Compatible DP1/DP2-family M-size imager, projection lens and desired shutter/gobo/iris assembly. |
| Beam control | Model-approved barn doors, light shield ring and wide-angle/parallel-beam attachments. |
| Soft light | Compatible speedring/softbox or a properly supported diffusion/bounce surface. |
Aspheric focusing optics are different from a conventional Fresnel. Check the actual accessory’s compatibility list, locking method and lens choice. A brand name or similar front diameter is not enough to establish fit.
Fit the intended front accessory before choosing the stand position. Check tilt clearance, balance, cable movement and independent support for any external electronics. Use the documented mounting hardware and appropriate secondary retention for the installation.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | Reason to compare |
|---|---|
| Dedolight DLH400DT | Precise focus and substantial projection ecosystem. 400/575W approved lamp and ballast configurations; A-size optical system. |
| Dedolight DLED10-D | Larger daylight package than compact DLED heads. 300W class; product detail lists 308W; A-size optical system. |
| Dedolight DLED7N-BI NEO | Useful output in a compact M-size package. 80W head in the current California NEO listing; M-size optical system. |

Rental and used-fixture checks
- Inspect the approved lamp and record lamp hours where available.
- Verify ballast model, power/frequency modes, head cable and connector condition.
- Check protective lenses and interlocks, then test the complete warm package with the production camera.
Confirm availability of service and replacement parts with the relevant supplier before buying older equipment. Check the actual kit contents against the shot: a missing controller, imager, lens or cable can matter more than a low head-only price.
