Art-Net is a lighting-control network protocol developed by Artistic Licence. It carries DMX-related data over an IP network, allowing multiple universes to travel between compatible controllers, nodes and fixtures.
Where it sits in the system
An Art-Net node can receive network data and output physical DMX. A network-capable fixture can receive the supported data directly. Ethernet describes the network connection; Art-Net identifies the protocol carried through it.
Practical example
A controller sends several universes through a network switch to nodes near different parts of the set. Each node port is assigned the required universe, and each attached fixture uses its own start address. Document the mapping from controller universe to node output.
Configuration details
Check IP addressing, network interface selection, protocol version and unicast or broadcast configuration as supported by the equipment. Verify universe-numbering conventions rather than assuming “Universe 1” means the same displayed value everywhere. Art-Net and sACN are distinct protocols; equipment must be configured to transmit and receive a compatible format.
Equipment examples
The Aputure LS 600x Pro supports network control, including Art-Net. Check the fixture’s connection and mode settings against the controller’s output.
