Overview
The amaran P60x is a compact bi-colour lensed LED panel with a 60 W output class and a 78 W maximum input rating. Its 3200–6500 K range, external supply and dual NP-F battery holders make it useful for small interviews, portable fills and background accents.
The P60x is the white-light model, distinct from the RGBWW P60c. Its native 45° half-peak beam is relatively concentrated for a panel; the matching softbox and grid change the working source and output. The 979 g head weight excludes batteries, stand and complete modifier package.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- A compact lensed panel and pop-up softbox make a quick small-space package.
- AC and dual NP-F operation suit compact location work.
- Bi-colour operation keeps white-light controls simple.
Limitations
- The native optical beam is directional; a panel is not automatically a broad soft source.
- Use the specified power arrangement and suitable matched batteries.
- The supplied threaded-pin mounting system needs careful tightening and support.
Practical uses
The compact rectangular face is useful for a close interview key with diffusion, a fill in a confined room or a small product source. Its narrow native beam can help put level where required, but it can also create a tighter field than expected from the word “panel.”
The included model-specific softbox and light-control grid make a more practical close soft source. Moving it nearer increases its apparent area to the subject; moving it away makes the same panel relatively harder and reduces level. Inspect the catchlight and reflection through the camera.
A very low-profile bare head can still become a deeper assembly once its support, batteries and softbox are fitted. Plan the full clearance, stand footprint and access to controls rather than only the 39.5 mm body depth.
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Interview key | Bring the diffused source close enough to appear large, then use the grid or flags to keep spill off the background. |
| Background accent | Position the source for the intended field and check the actual subject exposure rather than the brightness of the illuminated panel. |
| Compact location kit | Plan the stand, power source, cable path and access to controls as one package. |
| White-light fill | Match the white setting to the scene and use the included softbox when softer coverage is needed. |
Output and colour
The manual separates white settings and distances. Its headline 5,180 lux at one metre occurs at 6500 K; the 5600 K result is 5,070 lux. Quoting the higher value as a 5600 K reading would change the test condition.
The measurements below are the manufacturer’s panel photometrics, without a claim for output through the supplied softbox or grid. The native lens concentration is part of the result. Fit the intended diffusion and meter the subject area before comparing it with a larger soft panel.
| CCT | 0.5 m, lux | 1 m, lux | 2 m, lux |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3200 K | 17,570 | 4,860 | 1,280 |
| 4300 K | 17,670 | 4,940 | 1,283 |
| 5600 K | 18,120 | 5,070 | 1,328 |
| 6500 K | 18,410 | 5,180 | 1,354 |
Tests and reviews
Erik Naso’s 1 m test at a 5600 K setting reported 5160 lux and a measured CCT of 5594 K for the P60x.
Power and batteries
Use the designated AC adapter for the 15 V DC head input. Two suitable NP-F batteries provide an alternative; the manufacturer quotes over an hour with two NP-F970 packs under its stated setup. Treat that as a battery-specific claim rather than a guarantee for every brand, capacity, age and level.
The fixture includes an NP-F charging circuit for use with its AC supply. Confirm charging status and mode on the actual unit, and include the appropriate adapter and charging time in a multi-light package. A panel being able to charge NP-F packs does not establish that any weak external source sustains every operating mode.
A compatible two-pin D-tap power cable is another listed option. Use the manual’s input range and approved cable, support the battery and lead, and avoid treating a superficially similar two-pin connector as a universal wiring standard.
Control, cooling and camera operation
The P60x mixes warm and cool white. It cannot produce the P60c’s saturated RGB colours. Use CCT to match the scene and test the intended camera/subject; the CRI/TLCI figures and SSI reference scores describe different aspects of colour reproduction.
Local controls and Sidus Link Bluetooth provide intensity, CCT and effects access. The manual lists Smart and Medium fan modes, Studio power-return behaviour, firmware information and Bluetooth reset. Confirm those settings before an unattended or remotely switched setup.
The checked model specification does not list native CRMX or a conventional wired-DMX input. An app connection should not be described as equivalent to a console DMX receiver. Test reconnection, low fades and any effect at the intended camera shutter and frame rate.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
Use the compatible tilting support or the intended 1/4-20 mounting points, with proper thread engagement and rated grip hardware. Add batteries, modifiers and cable loads to the head mass when choosing support, and provide appropriate secondary retention overhead.
Keep cooling paths open and protect the panel, supply and battery connections from conditions outside the manual. A weather-resistant description of a connector does not rate the complete light as waterproof. Inspect the face, mounting threads, battery contacts, locking plug and tilt mechanism after transport.
A useful hire includes the panel, retained power system, required support, batteries or AC plan, softbox/grid and case. Test both battery holders and the charging path on a used unit rather than verifying only that it lights on mains.
Alternatives and related fixtures
The full-colour P60c is a different engine and photometric package. A Nova P300c provides a larger colour soft-light system at a different power and weight class. Choose P60x for a compact variable-white panel where its source shape and power options fit the job.
| Fixture | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| amaran P60c | RGBWW colour, tint adjustment and presets in a larger, heavier panel. |
| amaran COB 60x S | A compact Bowens point source with a different modifier and shadow-control approach. |
| amaran F21c | A larger, flexible RGBWW emitting area and a separate controller. |
What people are saying
Erik Naso: useful output, with the mount as the weak point
In his hands-on review, Naso liked the construction, softbox and power options. He preferred the P60c’s colour flexibility, but disliked the supplied tilt adapter and threaded mounting pin on both panels, using a grip head instead.

Rental and used-fixture checks
Check the mounting pin, all threaded mounting points and the tilt adapter under the actual panel, softbox and battery load. Inspect the diffuser, softbox retention, DC connector and NP-F contacts. Verify both battery operation and charging from the specified AC supply, then test app pairing and cooling.
