Overview
The Creamsource Micro Bender is an 80W bi-colour LED panel with a 2,700–6,500K range, a narrow 13° native beam and fan-free cooling. Its compact, IP65-rated head accepts 10–32V DC for location use with a suitable battery system.

The Bender is the white-light Micro, rather than the full-colour Micro Colour. It suits concentrated accents and small bounces. The photograph shows a dome accessory, which spreads the light beyond the fixture’s native spot distribution.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- The native 13° beam puts a small electrical load into a concentrated field.
- Passive cooling removes a fan-noise source from close dialogue setups.
Limitations
- It cannot generate saturated colours without gels.
- The narrow beam is easy to miss a moving subject with; widening it reduces the centre reading.
Practical uses
| Setup | Working approach |
|---|---|
| Hair or edge light | Position the native spot carefully and give the actor enough coverage for the blocking. |
| Small targeted bounce | Fill the bounce surface evenly. A hotspot on the centre of a large board wastes the rest of its area. |
| Confined location accent | Use a documented mounting option and protect the power accessories separately if the head is exposed to weather. |
Output and colour
| Distance | 3,200K — lux | 5,600K — lux |
|---|---|---|
| 1m | 51,800 | 55,100 |
| 3m | 7,650 | 8,360 |
| 4m | 4,390 | 4,720 |
These are manufacturer spot-beam readings. The Bender’s 13° optics and the Micro Colour’s 20° optics explain why equal 80W ratings do not mean equal centre lux. They are different lighting packages. Compare them after matching the final field and any diffusion.
Power and batteries
A compatible single camera battery can run the head through the correct plate and DC cable. Confirm the pack stays within 10–32V across its charge cycle and can deliver the required current. Keep the external AC supply and battery accessories dry; their protection differs from the head.
Control, cooling and camera operation
The optional adapter provides DMX control through the Micro accessory connection. Bring that adapter when ordering console operation. Local controls select level and white balance; a full-colour console personality does not add RGB capability to a Bender head.
Use the model-specific high-speed rating. The Bender data sheet lists over 1,000fps in its High Speed mode, while the Colour model lists a different figure. Check the installed firmware and run the intended shutter and dimming test. Time-synchronised flashing requires the appropriate sync setup.
Modifiers, rigging and the working package
The Micro’s spreading lenses, dome and softbox provide different levels of coverage and source size. Start with the narrow beam only when it serves the shot. For a soft key, build the desired source area first and check whether the remaining light is sufficient. The passive heat sink needs airflow even when the lamp is hidden in a set piece.
Alternatives and related fixtures
| Fixture | When to compare it |
|---|---|
| Aputure LS 600x Pro | A substantially larger bi-colour source with a Bowens modifier system. |
| Vortex4 | Full colour, more power and modern Vortex connectivity. |

Rental and used-fixture checks
- Confirm Bender identification and test both ends of the white range.
- Include the right lenses, power lead, mounting plate and optional DMX adapter.
- Inspect the fin clearance and temperature behaviour during the actual concealed setup.
- Check the whole battery path under load rather than relying on an unloaded voltage reading.
